The Reverend Hannah E. Atkins,Rector

The Rev. Hannah E. Atkins began her service as Trinity's fifteenth rector on Sunday, September 9, 2007. To prepare herself as a third generation Episcopal priest, the Reverend Atkins earned a bachelor of arts degree in history at Douglass College, Rutgers University and a masters degree in divinity at the General Theological Seminary in New York in May 1996, with additional masters level studies in theology at Universidad Centroamericana Jesuita in El Salvador.

The Reverend Atkins has most recently served as Senior Assistant Rector at St. John's Church, Lafayette Square, Washington, D.C., as part of almost eight years of her parish service there. Before joining St. John's Church, she served as Director of Theological and Christian Education in the Diocese of the Episcopal/Anglican Church of El Salvador, Associate Priest at St. John the Evangelist San Salvador, Priest-in-Charge at Holy Trinity Church Santa Teresa in San Martin, San Salvador, and as Interim Priest-in-Charge at St. Andrew's Church in Amatepec, Soyapango, El Salvador.

The Reverend Atkins is married to Elmer Romero and they have two sons.


The Reverend Michael Roeske, Assisting Priest

A life-long Episcopalian, Michael graduated cum laude from Yale Divinity School in 2000. He was ordained Deacon and Priest in 2001 in the Diocese of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, where he served as Canon Missioner ("church planter") from 2000 to 2003. He also served as Rector of The Church of St. John the Evangelist in Boston, Massachusetts.

 



The Reverend Barbara Van Black

 The Rev. Barbara A. Van Black, Deacon, joined the Trinity staff on Sunday, May 9, 2010.  She attended the Diocese of Texas’ Iona School for Ministry and was ordained in February 2009.  At the heart of her call to the Diaconate is the vision of serving in front-line ministry with those who are marginalized and involvement in pastoral care ministries within the parish.  She attended the diocesan program, Formation in Direction, and has been an active Spiritual Director since 2003. After attending community college she had a public service career principally with the Judicial Branch, United States District Court, as the Jury Administrator.  She worked with the judges, jurors, and federal bar on a daily basis managing all aspects of the jury program until her retirement in 2001.  She has been involved in volunteer work since 1996 and currently serves as a Chaplain at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in Sugar Land.

Joseph Causby

A native of North Carolina, Joseph completed his MM degree in organ performance from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University.  Joe has recently returned to Trinity following a year in Durham, England as the first American organ scholar of Durham Cathedral.  Also, while in Durham, Joe began PhD studies that center around the Anglican Choral Tradition in America; specifically the history of the choir of Men and Boys, St. Thomas Church, Fifth Avenue, New York City.

Ed Ziegler

 

Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries

Ed Ziegler was born an Army Brat in El Paso, Texas and has grown up around the country. Some of his favorite places to live have been Stuttgart, Germany and Ft. Irwin, California. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1998 with a Business degree and went to work in the HR field before moving into higher education at the University of Houston. Ed has been actively involved in youth and young adult programs since discovering Trinity in 2001, and in 2006 became the Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries. Ed is interested in continuing to encourage a church family that allows the expression of every individual’s life with Christ.



Carol Nyberg-Caraviotis

Director of Family Ministries

Carol Nyberg-Caraviotis was born in Colorado, lived in New York, Illinois, Oregon, and New Jersey before finding her way to Texas. She served the Episcopal Church in several positions including Director of Christian Education for the Diocese of Chicago when Presiding Bishop Frank Griswold was the Diocesain Bishop. She is a national formation leader in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd and leads formation courses around the country. Carol enjoys birdwatching with her husband Jerry. She has two grown children, Andrew and Kirsten. She is an avid mystery fan, so if you have a favorite mystery writer, she would love to hear about them.

A lifelong writer and reader, Susan comes to Trinity after many years directing and teaching theatre.  She has produced numerous arts events and theatre productions often integrating multi-media and diverse texts. Along with her husband Christopher, Susan is raising two sons, herding her rescued dog and becoming increasingly green as she rides her bike across Houston. She holds a B.A. in Theatre and an MFA in Directing.

Bringing 20 years of non-profit experience with her, Susie began the position of Administrative Assistant in November, 2009.  A devoted Christ Follower, she is very active in her church where she participates in a leadership roll in both missions and prayer ministries.  She has 2 children, 2 dogs and makes a mean cheesecake.
